The journey to learn to skate can start at a very young age. Specialized parent participation classes are available for toddlers between two and four years old. These 30-minute sessions are a wonderful way for a parent or guardian to be on the ice with their child, offering support while a coach guides them through fun activities and games. The primary focus is on foundational skills like balance and an introduction to gliding and stopping, ensuring a positive first experience with the sport.
For children ready to learn independently, beginner classes are offered for two distinct age groups: 3-6 years and 7-11 years. These programs are perfect for the absolute beginner skater who is new to the ice. With small coach-to-skater ratios, each child receives focused attention as they learn to stand on their own, find their balance, and take their first glides. The 30-minute classes are structured to keep young skaters engaged while building a solid foundation.
Once a skater has mastered the basics, they can progress to the novice and intermediate levels. These classes are also split into 3-6 and 7-11 year old age groups and are designed to refine the skills learned in the beginner sessions. Here, the focus shifts to more advanced techniques. Skaters will perfect their stopping, improve their gliding efficiency, and learn how to skate with control. The goal is to develop more complex skills like edge work and prepare skaters for more advanced disciplines or simply for a lifetime of confident recreational skating.
These Hamilton-based programs offer a clear and encouraging path for anyone wanting to learn how to skate. From a toddler's first steps on the ice to an older child's journey toward mastering turns and stops, each class is designed to be fun, safe, and effective. By breaking down the fundamentals into manageable steps, these lessons ensure every beginner skater can build the confidence and ability to enjoy their time on the ice."
